When I made the transition from film to digital I used the DSLR Basics and Beyond the Basics courses by A Beautiful Mess  to get familiar with how to work a digital camera. A Beautiful Mess is a lifestyle company focused on creating happiness through a homemade lifestyle, founded by sisters Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman. The first course, DSLR Basics, was all about getting creative while learning how to use your digital camera in manual mode. The second course, Beyond the Basics, consisted of 25 creative challenges to develop your photography skills. I absolutely loved both of them!

DSLR Basics is meant to take away any fear you may have about how to set a DSLR camera so you can focus on taking beautiful photos. You will learn how to set your camera like a pro and document your life creatively and beautifully. The course also contains twelve sessions to push you creatively, to find your own photography style and capture life all around you. I loved the 3 cheat sheets contained in the course. Theres an ISO cheat sheet, an Aperture cheat sheet, and a Shutter Speed cheat sheet.

Beyond the Basics is the creative follow up course to the DSLR Basics course. Once you get comfortable with your DSLR in the Basics course you will want to move on to this course to expand your skills. In this course you will be pushed to think outside the box and break through any photography rut you might find yourself in by being exposed to new techniques and encouraged to photograph in many different situations. I highly recommend taking this course right after the DSLR Basics course to start really having fun and feeling like a pro!

You will want to check out the other courses from A Beautiful Mess too. They offer courses on blogging, Instagram, blog design, Photoshop and a course on How to Write and Pitch a Book Proposal! Here is the link to their course page: A Beautiful Mess courses
