A Sense of Place Vol. 1

A Sense of Place is a personal project of mine inspired by my neighborhood and a desire to get away from all the “fast photography” found on social media.

By “fast photography” I mean the plethora of images that come at you daily on most social media platforms. This photography, as amazing as a lot of it is, is very short lived. The content creators on these platforms know that the content monster is never satisfied. It constantly needs more content. Fresh content. LIke Number 5 from the movie Short Circuit, it needs “more input!” I’m not knocking it. It has it’s place. It can generate business. It’s an art form in itself. I make money doing it.

But sometimes I need to slow down. Shooting with film is a great way to slow down and take your time composing a shot because you only have so many shots on a role of film. There is delayed gratification because of the time it takes to have the film developed and scanned for digital mediums or printed for old school mediums like books or wall art.

So I brought my old 35mm camera out with me when I walked the dogs in my rather picturesque neighborhood. There is a variety of arthecechual styles here. Newer homes built to look like older homes. Modern, Mediterranean, Craftsman, and traditional styles all in the same neighborhood. What I am trying to convey is what it’s like here in this unique neighborhood in the suburbs of Dallas.

After about 6 months of doing this, I had a large amount of images. The project is not finished. It is on going. I’d like to cover all the seasons here. The images in this volume were taken in late summer and fall. Hoping to release a Vol. 2 soon.

Hope you enjoy!

XOXO
